The group stage is coming to an end at the European Junior Team Championships 2022 in Belgrade, Serbia. In the morning session of the third day, the first three teams advanced to the elimination round starting on Sunday, the 21st of August.

Group 5: Czech team was not messing around

The first team to secure a ticket for the quarterfinals was the Czech Republic. The team showed no mercy to their opponents from Latvia as only one match lasted longer than 20 minutes in the 5-0 win.

Poland took the second spot in the group after beating Estonia 3-2.

Group 6: Ukraine advances

Things did not go as planned for Croatia’s U19 team this week. After losing each 2-3 to Hungary and Romania they had to take on the strongest team of their group, Ukraine. And as if this task was not already difficult enough, they also had to deal with an injury today.
Jelena Buchberger twisted her ankle at the beginning of the first game in women’s singles and had to retire from singles and doubles. After the injury break, the Ukrainian team stayed in control and won all remaining matches in two games taking the 5-0 victory and a spot in the quarterfinals.

In the second match of group 6, Hungary showed another strong performance in their last contest winning 5-0 over Romania and claiming the second position in group six followed by Romania and Croatia.

Group 8: England leaves no doubt

England also continued an unbeaten run here in Belgrade and advanced to the elimination stage after rushing past Norway with another 5-0 win.

The battle for the second spot in the group between Bulgaria and Lithuania went the full distance. After winning two matches each the mixed doubles had to bring a decision in the last match of the morning session.

Now the teams will be waiting for the afternoon and evening sessions to end before the draws for the quarterfinals will be made.
