The city of Dubrovnik, Croatia, has gathered for over a week badminton talents from all over the world in two strong events.

From the first matches that were played on five courts in Dubrovnik starting Thursday morning, June 16 to the last match that finished on Thursday 23 at 15:55 — the women's doubles final in which Hong Kong’s Lui Lok Lok/ Ng Shiu Yee became champions by winning against Latvians Anna Kupca/ Jekaterina Romanova —, it was a total of 175 hours with hundreds of matches being played. Only on the first day of the tournament, about one hundred matches were played.

The first four days, Dubrovnik hosted Croatia VALAMAR Junior Open, the Croatian Open Junior Championship, and for the last four days the elite Croatia Open, a Futures Series tournament, was held.

Competitors from 53 countries and six different continents took part in the events in Dubrovnik, with the Asian players dominating with great results. They took all five golds in the junior competition, a total of 17 out of 20 possible medals, and in the elite tournament, four out of five golds and 10 out of 20 medals. Out of ten finals, they did not reach only one of them — the mixed doubles in the Croatia Open, a category that had an all-European podium.

The Croatian Open Junior Championship has become the strongest European junior tournament, and the fact that competitors from almost 50 countries from six continents met in Croatia to fight for the title puts Dubrovnik's badminton scene in the spotlight.
