Slovenia will be hosting from tomorrow another edition of the Slovenian International, that will take place in Maribor from 18 to 21 May.

After a week full of thrills at the Thomas & Uber Cup, Thailand is now hosting the Thailand Open. Europe will also be providing badminton fans with exciting matches, from the second-largest city of Slovenia, Maribor. From 18 to 21 May, we will get to see who will eventually become the new champion of the I FEEL SLOVENIA YONEX International 2022.

Tough competition
The 2022 Dutch International champion and Luxembourg Open runner-up Magnus Johannesen, number five seed, could be adding yet another really good result in Slovenia. Third seeded Daniel Nikolov won the bronze in this same event last year, could he improve result this time?

It will not be easy, as there’s tough competition, including Miha Ivanič and Miha Ivančič, who will be playing on home soil, and Siril Verma, last year’s Welsh International runner-up, who beat Nikolov on his opening match in that event. Chinese Taipei’s Chia Hao Lee has been getting some good results in the European circuit this year.

In men’s doubles, William Kryger Boe/ Christian Faust Kjaer, who won the silver at this same event last year, will be looking for the gold this time. Their best result this year was at the Dutch International where they reached the quarterfinals. The unseeded Philip Birker, who won a bronze medal last year, will be trying again this year with a different partner than last the last time, Philip Drexler.

Glib Beketov/ Mykhaylo Makhnovskiy, who got the 3rd/4th spot at home in the Ukraine Open earlier this year, will first be facing Chen Cheng Kuan/ Fang-Jen Lee. Home duo Jaka Ivančič/ Andraz Krapez, will be starting with a clash against Wei Chun Wei/ Wu Guan Xun, who have already earned two medals at the European Circuit this year.

A whole new set of winners
Agnes Korosi was the only player from last year’s women’s singles podium that was to play, but the Hungarian player has withdrawn so we will get a new set of winners this year. Korosi’s withdrawal has given the talented Ann-Kathrin Spoeri the chance to advance to quarterfinals.

This could be top seed Jordan Heart’s opportunity to get her first big result of the year. Other seeded players to watch out for are Sophia Grundtvig, who won a women’s doubles bronze in 2019, and Tasya Farahnailah, who won silver at the Alpes International U19 2022.

Women’s doubles will also be getting a new line-up of medallists. Number four seeds Serena Au Yeong/ Katharina Hochmeir, Austria, will be playing against Alpes International U19 2022 champions Meilysa Trias Puspita Sari/ Rachel Allessya Rose, Indonesia. Denmark’s biggest chance for a spot on the top is the pair of Amalie Cecilie Kudsk/ Signe Schulz.

Kudsk will also be playing in mixed doubles, together with Kristian Kræmer. The duo, who won the silver at the Swedish Open 2022, will be playing their first match at the tournament against home pair Gal Bizjak/ Zoja Novak. Another Slovenian pair, Miha Ivanič/ Petra Polanc, could get their country a good result at home, but will first have to win against their first opponents, Scotland’s Ciar Pringle/ Rachel Sugden.
