The Coach Education Level 1 Course that took place 5-8 May in Findel, Luxembourg, concluded with a group of coaches motivated and ready for the challenges ahead.

It was a great weekend for badminton in Luxembourg last week. Just as the first YONEX Luxembourg Open was taking place, 18 participants that had come to Findel from 12 different countries enjoyed what was yet another successful BWF/BEC Coach Education Level 1 Course in Findel.

After group tasks, on and off court sessions, and plenty of valuable information shared, the last days of the event were spent covering topics such as performance factors, goal setting, planning, and Para badminton. These are the fundamentals that participants need to be aware of to become successful coaches, together with their great passion for the sport.

- I really like this sport and I want to transmit my passion to younger players, professional player and Centre of Excellence player Maxime Moreels said.

A diverse group that supported each other
On Sunday, it was time for the final assessment task in which the 18 coaches had to prove to the course tutors all that they had learnt during the week. There was a group of 10 young badminton players partaking in all the sessions delivered.

- They will be able to plan and deliver their own sessions within their clubs or local areas. They will have the skills and knowledge to take players to the next level and eventually, they will be able to take the BWF Level 2 Course after a few years of building up their experience, Tutor Craig McCourtney stated.

- It has been a very diverse but cohesive group. The best thing about the group that we‘ve been working with this weekend is the support they’ve given to each other. That has been fantastic, Head Tutor Alan McIlvain said.

Activities like this one are essential for the development of badminton in Europe. BEC Development & High Performance Officer Mari Carmen Casermeiro is happy to see how fruitful this experience has been for everyone involved.

- Passion, hard work, and togetherness would be three keywords to describe these days in Findel, Luxembourg. There was a remarkable progression in all of the coaches attending, that will enable them to put into practice all the insight and constructive inputs gathered, Casermeiro concluded.
