The second day of the 2022 European Championships has awarded us with many great moments, but the highlight of the day was the return of the queen on home soil.

What an intense day everyone has had at the 2022 European Championships today. The second day had plenty of badminton action, with matches from day to night in which players gave their all to advance onto the next round.

There were many three-game clashes, some aren’t ready to give up just yet, and others are still trying to find their rhythm in the big event. There’s no time to hesitate if you want to be crowned the best in Europe and just as all the players that fought until the end today, winning or losing, Carolina Marin knows it too.

Ready to win from the get-go
“I can because I believe I can” is Carolina Marin’s motto, and that’s just what her approach to these European Championships is. When asked if she can win her sixth consecutive gold at the event, she’s sure she can get it done.

- Of course I think I can do it. It all comes down to what I do on court. My main goal is to just get back on court, feel good, and think about what I have to do in every game against any player. That´s it, Marin said.

The atmosphere has been lively, something many of the players have praised, being extremely happy about the return of the audience. The energy of the crowd had its peak when Carolina Marin made her much-awaited comeback.

- I cannot describe with words how I feel when I made my comeback on court today. It is always special to play at home, but it is even more so when it is my first match and my comeback here at home, Marin stated.

- I feel really happy to be back, I want to enjoy being on court, and that´s it. I just say to myself, get the victory today, and then one more tomorrow, Marin added.

New and better things
It’s been 11 months of recovery and preparing to get back on the routine of travelling around the world to fight for wins. Marin has also used the period to improve and add to her game, so perhaps she will get to surprise those opponents who thought they knew her style of play well.

- We, badminton players, have years full of tournaments. That’s why it´s so tough to have the time to just prepare some new techniques. That’s why we used my injury to train new things and to improve what I needed to improve. I just want to play this week using all the things that I’ve been training at home for almost a year, Marin concluded.
