Representatives of the Badminton Europe Confederation (BEC) and YONEX visit the Municipal Sports Center of Gallur in preparation for the upcoming 2022 European Championships that will take place 25-30 April.

Madrid is counting down to the start of the 2022 European Championships and all parties involved in the organisation are doubling their efforts to make sure that everything is ready. It is just a month to go before the best players on the continent battle at the Gallur Municipal Sports Center and preparations are progressing as planned.

Representatives of the Spanish Badminton Federation and the Madrilenian Badminton Federation guided the Badminton Europe delegation during the tour, in which they inspected all the spaces of the Municipal Sports Center.

The visit was carried out with Badminton Europe Events Manager Tamara Geeraerts and Event Officer Matthieu Hecker. The representative of YONEX, the brand sponsor that will provide the materials, Steffen Hohhenberg, also attended the visit.

-We are delighted to be back in Spain for another edition of the European Championships. In 2018, we were welcomed in Huelva and since then the Spanish Badminton Federation has been able to host many international events including some during the pandemic. It is the first time that this venue will host an international badminton tournament, but we are pleased to see that it offers excellent facilities to bring together the best players in Europe and also to receive fans for the first time in a European Championship since the pandemic arrived, said Tamara Geeraerts.

A word from the president
President of the Spanish Badminton Federation, Andoni Azurmendi Ibarrola, is pleased by the successful visit and the progress made.

-It’s a great satisfaction that Badminton Europe has a good impression from the venue of the European Championships and also from Madrid, as it offers an environment that makes the event even more attractive for athletes and fans. Preparations are progressing as planned thanks to the support of the Madrid City Council and the Madrid Badminton Federation and we are sure that we are going to organise an event that will leave its mark.

Badminton Europe, the Madrid City Council, the Spanish Badminton Federation and the Madrilenian Badminton Federation continue working together on preparations for the 2022 European Championships, which will take place 25-30 April.
