Holbæk Sportsby, the location of Badminton Europe’s Centre of Excellence, impresses attendees at the Danish Football Congress 2022.

Almost 500 people gathered at Jysk Musikteater in Silkeborg to attend the Congress which aimed to excite and inspire future developments within their sport. Attendees also included Troels Bech, Manager of Esbjerg fB, stand-up comedian Melvin Kakooza and former badminton World Champion Camilla Martin.

It was the presentation of the facility which allows Badminton Europe’s Centre of Excellence players to train at a high level that received the highest plaudits and recognition. Carsten Damgaard, Director of Holbæk Sportsby was delighted by the response following his presentation of the state-of-the-art facilities they have to offer.

-I received a lot of positive feedback from all over the country. The keywords at the congress were, among other things, community and cooperation, which are two of the keywords for us.

The badminton community
At Holbæk Sportsby, there is a strong badminton community of players from a diverse range of nations that make up the Centre of Excellence. All with the same ambition to develop themselves as top badminton players. While some players use the centre for training blocks, many of the players are based full-time at the training base.

In addition to the elite coaching staff in Head Coach Jeroen van Dijk and Coach John Dinesen, the players have access to a high quality and aspirational training base designed towards talented and deserving players from all over Europe and beyond.

-It really warms the soul when we experience that people are impressed by the facilities and the concept of Holbæk Sportsby, added Carsten Damgaard.

The vision
Badminton Europe is proud and encouraged by the ongoing cooperation with Holbæk Sportsby and believes that the Centre of Excellence (CoE), which is now approaching its fourth year, can make future strides towards the long-term vision.

This vision is for the CoE to become a vehicle for extended cooperation among Members and potentially Continental Confederations to benefit the overall development of European and World Badminton.

-Holbæk Sportsby has been one of our closest partners since the CoE moved into their great facilities. Carsten and his team make every day very easy as they are very solution-oriented. So, both the facilities and services are top class, said Jacob Oehlenschlaeger, BEC Development & High Performance Senior Manager.
