As part of the BASIS programme, the German Badminton Association received a visit from BEC staff to share knowledge in the area of Communication.

The German Badminton Association has been a BEC member since 1967, being one of the founding members and just like BEC, they have grown immensely throughout the years, having to adapt to the rapidly changing world of the last decades.

The BASIS programme
One of the areas that has so much changed and is still to this day in constant transformation is that of Communication. This is why it is important that associations keep up with the changes by acquiring more information and adapting, and why the German Badminton Association decided to broaden their knowledge through the BASIS programme.

- Rasmus Bech, BEC Communication Manager, informed me about this opportunity during the World Championships 2019 in Switzerland. I was immediately very interested in having the visit, the German Badminton Association’s Press Officer Claudia Pauli said.

The BASIS (Badminton Administrative Support and Information Sharing) programme, developed by the Member Support Commission in collaboration with the BEC Office, aims at offering various levels of support to the MAs. It is a demand-led programme, through which the BEC Office will devise a strategy tailored to the MA’s specific needs.

Sharing to grow
BEC Communication Manager Rasmus Bech travelled to Mülheim an der Ruhr in a Representative Visit that would focus on the area of Communication. In this way, information and knowledge was shared between two parts.

The two-day visit consisted of a presentation in which Bech gave input on improving communication efficiency and solving current issues after which the German Badminton Association posed any questions they could have, and then two-three action points were set for each of the staff members to work on the short term.

- It was great to meet the communication and commercial staff in the German Badminton Association. I am truly happy that they were asking the questions they found relevant, Bech said.

A different viewpoint
The exchange of information and experience benefits not only the MA who takes part in the programme. It serves to further develop their relationship with BEC while getting the chance to get new perspectives.

- All three people who took part in the visit felt that it was very useful. Through our exchange with Bech, we got feedback on our daily work from an “external point of view”. We were stimulated to reflect on our current workflow, and we also received a lot of inspiration for our performance in the future, Pauli explained.

- Sometimes, it can be a good thing to get a little inspiration from someone from “the outside”, and I hope the federation felt inspired, Bech added.

A great opportunity for all
With all the new goals already set, all the staff involved in Communication at the German Badminton Association are looking to the next period where they will put all the new theory into practice with optimism, and so is Bech.

- The German Badminton Association has a big potential in the commercial and communication. The staff are eager to deliver good content and I am sure that – if they get the resources they need – we will see them take some big steps in this area. The motivation is there for sure, Bech stated.

After the successful and enriching experience, Pauli has a message for Members Associations interested in such opportunity.

- I would definitely recommend other Members to ask for a Representative Visit, Pauli said.
