At a Badminton Europe Board Meeting on 29 October held in Brussels, the 2024 European Senior Championships were allocated to the Croatian Badminton Association, to be held in Dubrovnik 20-27 October 2024.

Croatia was due to host the 14th edition of the championships last year in Zadar, however, it was cancelled due to the pandemic. The event is allocated pending a signed contract between the Croatian Badminton Association (CBA) and Badminton Europe (BEC). Renna Unt BEC Director and Events Committee Chair is delighted by the news.

- It is a special pleasure to have this event take place in Croatia after the forced cancellation of the same event there last year. I’m grateful that the Croatian Badminton Federation have stayed committed and are still interested in hosting this important event for all senior players. We are really pleased to see that senior players from all over Europe can return to the courts and contend for European championship titles.

Last time out
The 2018 European Senior Championships was played in Guadalajara, Spain. Gold medals were won and taken back to 16 different nations - Russia, France, Germany, Austria, Sweden, Switzerland, Netherlands, Bulgaria, Italy, Denmark, Norway, Israel, Ireland, England, Poland and Scotland. Once again plenty of medals will be up for grabs at the upcoming senior tournaments.

Dubrovnik: the perfect location
The UNESCO protected Mediterranean seaport, famed for its beauty and rich history is an ideal location for Europe’s biggest badminton tournament.

-Dubrovnik is definitely a great location for the European Senior Championships. The wonderful historic city, newly built venue and high-quality accommodation will make it without doubt an enjoyable experience for all participants, Renna Unt confirmed.

A warm Croatian welcome
On top of the badminton, there will be plenty to see and do in the city on the Adriatic Sea. President of the Croatian Badminton Association and BC Dubrovnik, BEC Commission Member, Ratko Galjer, assures participants that it will be one not to forget.

-It is my great pleasure to organise the championships in Dubrovnik, a city that has already hosted a Board of Directors meeting and a BEC Congress. In 2024, we will have a magnificent event that all participants will enjoy. Dubrovnik will certainly offer unforgettable experiences that everyone will surely be happy to remember.

To Dubrovnik via Ljubljana
The first stop on the road to Croatia is of course the 2022 European Senior Championships taking place 7-13 August in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

However, before this journey begins, all eyes are on Huelva, Spain, who is hosting two world championships back-to-back this year. The World Senior Championships are taking place 28 November to 4 December, which is then followed by the 2022 World Championships.
