China beat Japan in the 2020 Uber Cup final.

After missing out on the title in 2018, the Uber Cup trophy now travels back to China. The Chinese Uber Cup team won their 15th Uber Cup title beating Japan 3-1 in 2020 Uber Cup final.

In the opening match of the tie, Akane Yamaguchi took the first point for Japan. The 2018 World Championships bronze medallist won in straight games, 21-18 21-10, against the reigning Olympic champion, Chen Yu Fei.

- I was a bit nervous, but when I won the first game, I could see that she was getting nervous and felt the pressure, Akane Yamaguchi mentioned.

- It has never been easy for me to play against Yamaguchi. I am also trailing against her head-to-head, Chen Yu Fei said.

One hour and 57 minutes
A thrilling women’s doubles resulted in the longest match of the event until now.

Yuki Fukushima, Mayu Matsumoto, Chen Qing Chen and Jia Yi Fan were on court for one hour and 57 minutes, which resulted in the first Chinese point of the night. Chen Qing Chen and Jia Yi Fan won 29-27 15-21 21-18.

- This is the longest match we have ever played. We can barely walk, and we cannot run for sure, the Chinese duo said.

2-1 for China
China took the lead winning the second women’s singles. He Bing Jiao dominated and won 21-9 in the first game against Sayaka Takahashi.

The Japanese world number 15 was struggling with knee issues but put up a great fight in the second game. He Bing Jiao won the second game 21-18.

Only lost one match
Going into today’s final, China had not lost a single match in the tournaments. Win 5-0 wins against Canada, Malaysia and Denmark in the group stage followed by 3-0 wins against Chinese Taipei and Thailand in the knock-out stage, China has throughout the tournament showed that they had the eyes on the prize.

Huang Dong Ping and Li Wen Mei became match winners for the Chinese team winning the second women’s doubles of the evening. The Chinese won 24-22 23-21 against Misaki Matsutomo and Nami Matsuyama securing the third and final point.
