The Danish Uber Cup team lost 3-0 to their Korean opponent in the quarterfinals.

The Danish team had the ambition to make it to the quarterfinals at the Thomas & Uber Cup on home soil. The young team reached the goal, but the battle against the Korean team was an uphill fight for the Danes.

Perfect start
Danish Mia Blichfeldt and An Seyoung from Korea are two of most shining talents in the women’s singles category, and the Uber Cup quarterfinals was kicked off with a matchup between the world number on eight (Seyoung) and 12 (Blichfeldt).

After a shaky start at her first match at Uber Cup, Blichfeldt has played solid, and she continued the good run in the first game against An Seyoung. Blichfeldt won the first game 21-14. The Korean World number eight bounced back winning the second game 21-8 after controlling throughout the entire game.

Mia Blichfeldt got the first points on the scoreboard in the third game, before An Seyoung took control. The 19-year-old French Open 2019 winner was leading with seven points, 11-4, at the interval and Korea also took the lead of the tie. An Seyoung won the third game 21-8.

- I think she took out all my pace, speed, and power in the second game. She made it difficult for me to get the front court because she played clever, and she made it difficult for me. I was taught a lesson today, Blichfeldt said.

2-0 for Korea
The first women’s doubles match of the tie was a rematch from the Tokyo Olympics. Sara Thygesen and Maiken Fruergaard faced world number four, Shin Seungchan and Lee Sohee, who the Danes beat in three thrilling games in August.

The Koreans women’s doubles clinched the bronze medals at the 2014 Copenhagen World Championships, and on quarterfinals day seven years later at Uber Cup, they also showed why they are strong card to play at a team event. The Koreans got their revenge winning in straight games 21-17 21-18.

- We made too many easy mistakes and they do not make them. We do not get any easy points from them, and we need to be focused all the time, and sometimes we made some stupid choices, Maiken Fruergaard stated.

Another Korean medal
Line Christophersen had to deliver a win to keep up the Danish hopes, but the 2021 European Championships runner-up did not get things going against world number 17, Kim Gaeun. The 21-year-old lost the first game 21-9.

In the second game Kim Gaeun continued to control the rallies, and after 26 minutes of play, the Danish team has played their final rally at the Uber Cup 2020. Line Christophersen lost the second game 21-17.

Korea secured a medal for the seven constitutive time winning 3-0 against Denmark. Korea will be playing Japan in the Uber Cup semifinals on Friday.
