Beatriz Corrales and Clara Azurmendi will be representing Spain in December on home soil.
Spanish players, Clara Azurmendi and Beatriz Corrales, were both in the line-up playing singles in the tie against India.
Azurmendi beat former World number one, Saina Nehwal, who withdrew after the first game, while Corrales lost to Indian youngster Malvika Bansod.
Support from federation
Azurmendi and Corrales will be playing the women’s doubles later in the tie, and there are plans for the two players to continue to walk on court together.
- We do not know (the big plan) yet. It is a new project from the federation, who want to support us on playing doubles too, Clara Azurmendi stated.
- We will be playing this week, and then we will also play the World Championships in December.
Things to learn
After playing mainly in the singles category, Clara Azurmendi admits that they have a few things to learn:
- We know it is tough to play two categories, and maybe we have to decide at some point, but that is not a decision we make now, Azurmendi said.
- We have to start training a bit of women’s doubles trying to understand the doubles. It is really different, and now we start to understand it better.
