The major favourite lost his final match at the group stage and will not be playing in the knockout stage.

All eyes were on Kento Momota ahead of the Olympics, but the world number one will not be clinching a medal at the Tokyo Olympics.

The Japanese men’s singles superstar won his first match in the group stage beating Timothy Lam from USA in straight games, but in the second match of the group stage, Momota got under pressure.

Leading but losing
The reigning World Champion took the lead in the opening game, but from 10-10 Korean Heo Kwanghee dominated. The Korean, who entered the Olympics as unseeded won the first game 21-15.

Momota, who has won the three previous match ups against the Korea, also took the lead in the second game, but once again Kwanghee bounced back.

The big favourite, Momota, lost in straight games 15-21 19-21, and on paper the two Danes, Viktor Axelsen and Anders Antonsen are now favourites to challenge Chou Tien Chen, Chinese Taipei, for the Olympic gold medal.
