Part of one of the strongest men’s doubles duos, Seidel is confident in his and Mark Lamsfuss’s chances of getting their hands on a medal.

With the European Championships looming, the excitement grows and there are talks about who will get to go home with medals when the tournament comes to an end. The pair formed by Marvin Emil Seidel and Mark Lamsfuss is one of many people’s favourites and for sure could actually become champions despite the big rivals they will be facing.

A strong sense of confidence
Seidel’s focus is now entirely placed on the men’s doubles and it looks like all efforts have paid off. Ever since 2019, the duo of Marvin Emil Seidel/ Mark Lamsfuss has kept a straight record that has hardly ever shifted in the world rankings, always securing an advantageous spot just like now as they hold the 19th place.

Their recent performances have been rather impressive. The 2021 Yonex Swiss Open saw them defeating some powerful duos and making their way to the big final where they had to face the huge challenge of defeating Europe’s number one Kim Astrup/ Anders Skaarup Rasmussen. In the end, it was a loss and therefore silver for the Germans, but nevertheless a great show of a game. Seidel and Lamsfuss will have to triumph over many other European powerhouses, and Seidel is sure they can get away with it.

-Of course, a medal is the first goal. We know that we can beat everybody, so we have our eyes on the title. Nevertheless, we have to take it game by game and play our best.

They have certainly demonstrated in the tournaments of the past few months that they can beat if not everybody, some of the world’s best. At the 2021 Toyota Thailand Open, they collected victories after winning against some of the best international players, losing to Lee Yang and Wang Chi-Lin in the quarter finals. So who knows if they could snatch the title of champions to the reigning ones, Kim Astrup/ Anders Skaarup Rasmussen, just like when they beat them at the 2021 European Mixed Team Championships. Seidel is feeling positive about their chances.

-We are confident in ourselves and really believe that we can do it this year, he affirmed.

Fierce rivals to defeat
Apart from old rivals such as the Danish reigning champions, there are many other strong men’s doubles pairs ready to fight. The lack of recent medals does not make them any less worthy of winning, but it could definitely have made them hungrier for medals. Seidel and Lamsfuss are on top of their form and might end up getting their hands on an European Championships medal for the first time.

Seidel’s partner colleague Mark Lamsfuss will also be battling in the mixed doubles category together Isabel Herttrich. The men’s doubles category offers a list of big names that guarantees an epic showdown. With the all-mighty previously mentioned Danes, the second-seeded English pair of Marcus Ellis/ Chris Langridge, and the fellow English duo Ben Lane/ Sean Vendy, there will definitely be plenty of work for the Germans to reach the gold. The 25-year-old German player know he has strong rivals to defeat and understand what it takes to get to the end.

-I think the doubles category will be interesting as all the top pairs have a chance to win. In the end, it won’t be about who is the strongest but who can play their game with the most confidence, Seidel explained.

The 2021 European Championships will take place in Kyiv, Ukraine from 27 April to 2 May. For more information about the 2021 European Championships, click here.
