It’s a new year and a new start for Badminton Europe’s latest addition to the team, Mari Carmen Casermeiro Gamez, who becomes our Development and High Performance Officer. Find out a little more about our new employee.

Mari Carmen, 25, arrives in Copenhagen from Antequera in southern Spain. A graduate in Sport Sciences, she decided to specialise as a Physical Education Teacher, followed by a Masters in Sport Management.

Having played badminton in her youth for the Spanish national team, she found an internship position at the Spanish Badminton Federation (FESBA) which became a full-time position leading to three great years.

Naturally, Mari Carmen has been involved in Badminton Europe administrators and event courses along with other seminars related to sport management and physical conditioning. Her experiences in many areas, including development projects such as the B4ALL EU, Women in Badminton and most recently becoming a BEC Gender Equity Ambassador last year, have paved a clear path towards her new role.

-Being involved in such an entity is the best opportunity I could have in order to keep on developing my knowledge from others in the world of badminton and see how a real strategic plan is being implemented through the different areas along with the collaborations of the Member Associations.

-Besides, and personally speaking, I really believe the experience will enrich myself in a personal and multicultural way, Mari Carmen adds.

Support and collaboration
Mari Carmen’s role will be mainly focused on areas including high performance, sport for all, gender equity and Para badminton. A broad range of areas where she feels she can make a positive impact.

-At Badminton Europe, I would like to do my best in order to keep on improving the support and collaboration of the Member Associations, so that we can create new projects and ideas which further grows badminton for the better.

Outside of badminton, Mari Carmen enjoys sport in general and taps into her outgoing personality when spending time with friends.

Badminton Europe welcomes you to the team!
