In this article, we get to know Miranda Wilson, the German singles player, a little better as she answers questions about her goal as a 15-year old, what she would be doing if she was not playing badminton and her biggest support through her career.

Why/how did you start playing badminton?

- I started in the small backyard behind the house. My dad saw that I showed some talent, so he took me with him to training at a local club.

What do you do in your spare time when you are not in the badminton hall or at the gym?

- I love being creative in many ways. Music, drawing, improvising in the kitchen while cooking and much more. But I also spend a lot of time regarding topics on sustainability.

What is your best badminton memory and why?

- My first training camp in Asia, it was in Thailand remains until now one of the best experiences I´ve made so far. Spending a month there so valuable and inspiring.

If you could choose one player to play doubles with, who would it be and why?

- If I had free choice, I would love to experience the Japanese Women’s doubles style, so perhaps Yuki Fukushima.

What was your big goal as a 15-year-old and why?

- It round about 15 when I found out I´d have a chance to go to the youth Olympics in 2018. I actually set my expectations on that tournament thinking that would decide whether I continue professionally or not.

Did you achieve that goal?

- No, I missed awfully close to qualify. Extremely high expectations and some unlucky circumstances… At first disappointing but actually a very valuable lesson I learnt.

What is your big goal now?

- Right now, my big goal is to improve as well as I can during the tournament free period. More long-term becoming Germany´s number one and playing at the Olympics.

When you are at tournaments, what do you like to do when you are not playing matches or warming up?

- One thing I always do is look if the place or city has a package free shop for Groceries and if I find time I usually go there.

Who is your favourite player of all time and why?

- Tai Tzu Ying, for her elegance, movement and skill.

If you weren’t playing badminton, what would you be doing then?

- I´d probably be a Musician.

A fun fact about yourself

- I am half Australian but terribly afraid of spiders!

Who has been your biggest support in your career?

- Don´t need to think twice about that question. Clearly my Dad!
