Badminton Europe Confederation (BEC) would like to wish the Hungarian Badminton Federation, a Happy 60th Anniversary.

The Hungarian Badminton Federation (HBF) was founded back on 1 February 1960. It has been a member of the BEC (former European Badminton Union) for 47 years, as they joined back in 1973. The Federation currently has about 3200 registered players in 58 different clubs, where around 700 are regularly participating in the association’s circuit tournaments.

Through the years and achievements
In 2012, Hungary held the European Club Championships in Pécs and in 2019, the World Academy of Sport (WAoS) courses took place in Budaörs, Hungary. At the event, participants came from 12 different countries to learn more about Event Management or National Administration.

At the same time as the WAoS courses, the 44th YONEX Hungarian International took place. Every year the Hungarian Badminton Federation host the Hungarian International, that players from all over the world attend.

During the years, the federation has achieved medals at the European Junior Championships (U15, U17, U19). Apart from that, they also have a BE Certified Training Centre in Pécs.

The fastest racket sport in the world has grown
József Csorba is the President of the Hungarian Badminton Federation, and he had a lot to say regarding the significance of the federations 60th anniversary.

- In 1960, a handful of former tennis players took a decisive step forward. The badminton they had previously known became an independent competitive sport in Hungary. The fastest racket sport in the world has grown considerably within our country in the past 60 years. Already it can be enjoyed on the most watched Hungarian sports channel, President József Csorba said.

- In recent years our players have qualified for the Olympics, the Youth Olympics, the European Games and also the World Championships, he continued.

- Hungarian badminton has grown considerably in the past 60 years however we feel there is still much more to come. Let’s do this together and help prepare us for the new challenges ahead in order to achieve more success in the future, he ended.

Melinda Joó, the General Secretary of the Hungarian Badminton Federation, is proud to work for the federation and also wanted to share her thoughts about the anniversary.

- As a former player, I am very honored to work for the Hungarian Badminton Association. Badminton is my sport, my passion and I hope to make it more popular and even more acknowledged across the whole country of Hungary.

- I will try to continue the work which was done in the past 60 years, focusing on coach education, school badminton and to have more top-level players in each age category.
