Spain’s Carolina Marin has claimed her second Italian International title, six years on since winning the first one in 2013 as a 20-year-old.

The reigning Olympic champion, who has looked unstoppable all week, defeated India’s Rituparna Das in straight games, although the first game was mightily close. The match ended 21-19, 21-14. Reflecting on her performance this week, Marin said.

-I was here to get points for my world ranking, as I have been away for seven and a half months. So, the goal here was done, and I am happy to win. I will be now leaving now to Grenada, to practise in the altitude and be ready for the tournament’s in the new year.

I will play the top level again
Since coming back from an injury, Marin has been climbing back up the rankings fast. Looking towards 2020, it will be a big year for the Spaniard, leading towards the defence of the most prodigious title in badminton, the Olympic Games in Tokyo. Marin shares the main elements she is working on for this special year.

-I still have to practise some of those aspects of my game. It was good that I can practise them here, so I feel happy about that. Now my focus is to keep improving my game and be ready for the next tournament I have in three weeks, where I will play against the top level again.
