The final four in each event is now set in Saarbrücken, Germany. We saw several upsets on quarterfinals day, namely the toppling of number one seeds Marcus Ellis and Lauren Smith by the eighth seeded Danish pair of Niclas Nohr and Sara Thygesen.

This match-up was played out twice this year, with the English pair, who are currently number eight in the world ranking, coming out as one-sided winners. However, this time it all fell into place for Nohr and Thygesen, who were able to completely reverse the form and win 21-15, 21-15.

In the semi-final they will face the number five seeds from China, who have strong representation this week, Ren Xiang Yu and Zhao Chao Min. This new pair on the circuit also toppled a higher seed in the quarterfinal, as they defeated fourth seeds Sam and Chloe Magee in straight games.

Another upset
Fans also witnessed another reversal of form in the women’s singles, with Russia´s unseeded Natalia Perminova coming out on top after a gruelling three game marathon against Belgium´s Lianne Tan, who is currently ranked thirty places ahead of Perminova.

Earlier this year at the Swiss Open, Tan scored a simple two game win over Perminova. Today however, things were very different and Perminova goes through to create the only unseeded semifinal as she will face Li Yun of China.
