For the first time in history the capital of Ukraine will host the best European badminton players.

Badminton Europe is happy to announce that the 2020 European Championships will be taking place in Kiev from 21-26 April 2020.

In April 2019 the Badminton Federation of Ukraine hosted the BEC Congress in Kiev, an event was a big success for the local hosts. In April 2020 all eyes will again be on Ukraine when all the top players of Europe travel to Kiev.

- I am very pleased that the 2020 European Championships will be held in Kiev. Lately we have seen a trend that our major events have been allocated to countries which have not hosted a major event before – for instance Luxembourg hosted the 2019 European Club Championships – and that makes me happy. It is great to see that the interest in badminton is increasing in our continent, President of Badminton Europe, Peter Tarcala said.

-  It is the first time in the history of European badminton that all the best players will be going to Ukraine, and I am sure that the players and the fans can look forward to a spectacular event. Hosting the BEC Congress in 2019 the Ukrainians showed that they know how to deliver an event, and I am sure that we will have a great Championship in 2020, he added.

Ukraine is ready
The 2020 European Championships will be taking place in the Palace of Sports – an indoor sport-concert complex situated in the centre of Kiev. The president of the Badminton Federation of Ukraine, Oleksii Dniprov, looks forward to welcoming the absolute top players of European badminton.

- It is a very big honour for Ukraine that Badminton Europe has decided to allocate the European Championships to Kiev. Ukraine has a strong tradition within the Olympic sports and my expectation for the event is to make it a “Victory of sport”, Dniprov said.

- I assure that it will be the best European Championships ever, he added.

The General Secretary of Badminton Europe, Brian Agerbak, was in Kiev to sign the hosting contract on behalf of Badminton Europe, and he is looking forward to coming back to Kiev in 2020.

- The European Championships is our flagship event and especially important since it is the last tournament in the Olympic Qualification Period. We are looking forward to welcoming all European players to Kiev, Brian Agerbak stated.

The 2020 European Championships will be taking place from 21-26 April 2020.
