Japan and China won back-to-back titles in the doubles categories.

It is public knowledge that Japan is dominating the women’s doubles category and the all-Japanese final at the World Championships in Basel showed, that the other top pairs still have something to improve to beat the Olympic 2020 hosts.

In the final Mayu Matsumoto/Wakana Nagahara cliched their second straight World Championships title beating Yuki Fukushima/Sayaka Hirota in three games, 21-11 20-22 23-21 after 85 minutes of play.

- It feels good to have won again. We were mostly defending, but when we managed to switch to being offensive, it was easier for us to make the points. Right now, we are happy for this medal, because it was a goal for us, and after this we can focus on Tokyo, Matsumoto and Nagahara said.

Also back-to-back for Chinese mixed doubles
Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong have for a long time been the two players to beat in the mixed doubles category. On Sunday Thailand’s Sapsiree/Dechapol were not close to do that.

In the final the Chinese won in straight games 21-8 21-12.

- It is different to win here in Europe. The venues are different in Asia compared to Europe, and that gives different experiences, Zheng Siwei said.

Legends did it again
In the men’s doubles category two living legends did it again:

Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan won their third World Championships title beating Hoki/Kobayashi from Japan in three games 25-23 9-21 21-15
