Peng Soon Chan and Liu Ying Goh, Malaysia, once again leave the World Championships without a medal.

The runners-up from the Rio Olympics could not secure their first ever World Championships medal.

After winning the first game 21-18 against the former All England winners, Yuta Watanabe/Arisa Higashino (Japan) in the quarterfinals, the Malaysian bowed out of the Worlds losing 21-12 21-11 in the second and the third game.

Focus on Tokyo
In the mixed zone after the loss Chan and Goh admitted that they had the chance to win their first ever World Championships medal.

- We are a bit disappointed. This was a good chance to win a medal, Peng Soon Chan said.

- I think we still have a chance to win a medal at the Worlds, but now our focus is on Tokyo, Liu Yong Goh said.

In the semifinals the Japanese will play either the overall favourite, Zheng Si Wei/Huang Ya Qiong from China.
