The defending world champion aims for another gold medal, but he also admits that he misses one of his rivals.

Kento Momota is the one to beat in the men’s singles category at the World Championships in Basel. The 24-year-old was confident in the first round winning in straight games against Cao Cuong Pham from Vietnam.

Having all eyes on him, the Tokyo 2020 favourite admits that he can feel the pressure.

- I am really nervous. I have some strong feelings that are hard to describe. I would like to change that mindset and find the right motivation, Momota said.

Hope to have Axelsen back soon
The top European men’s singles star, Viktor Axelsen, has been suffering from different injuries since June, and Momota hopes to see the tall Dane back on court soon.

- I have not seen Viktor at all lately which I am very sad about. He is a strong player and a star, and I hope to see him soon in good conditions, Momota stated.

In the second round Kento Momota will play Spain's Luis Enrique Penalver who beat Maxime Moreels (BEL) in his first round match.
