Carolina Marin is not ready to play.

In 2018 the European highlight at the World Championships was when Carolina Marin won her third World Championships title. In 2019 she will not defend her title at the Championships, when it takes place in Basel in late August.

On January 27th Carolina Marin suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during the final of Indonesia Masters, and the defending Olympic champion is still not ready to play at competitive level.

Back in action in September
On her Facebook page Marin spoke to her fans and followers:

- My team and me have decided that we are not going to play the World Championships because we are very short of time.

- The recovery is going very well and the knee is running well so we will wait until the tournaments in September.

Carolina Marin won her first World Championships title back in 2014 (Copenhagen) defended her title the year after (Jakarta) and won her third gold medal last year in Nanjing.
