After an action-packed week in Minsk, Badminton Europe’s General Secretary, Brian Agerbak is a happy man – he for sure liked what he saw.

The General Secretary of Badminton Europe has travelled the World watching badminton in more countries than most people. He has been at the Olympics, the World Championships, the European Championships and at the first ever European Games.

Last week Agerbak was in Minsk, Belarus, for the European Games 2019 and he reveals that the event was almost perfect:

- I think it has been a fantastic event, actually much better than I expected. We did not know what to expect but we have been met with so much friendliness, a lot of volunteers and a great organisation. We have been extremely happy with our venue, and we had great competitive matches, Agerbak said.

No complaints

The seven-day event took place in the Falcon Club in Minsk, a modern multi-sport environment. The players lived in the Athlete’s Village with good connections to and from the venue, and all in all the feedback has only been positive.

- I am used to hearing complaints. No matter where we are, there is always something that you can put your finger on. Here, it has not been the case, Brian Agerbak said.

- It has been happy faces all around and again it shows that the organisation here has been excellent and flawless. Cadeau to the local organisers organising these events to such high standard.

A big improvement from Baku

The European Games made its debut in 2015 as Baku, Azerbaijan hosted the first continental Games. Looking back at the Games in Baku and Minsk, Brian Agerbak is happy to see, that the European Games are going in the right direction.

- We had a much better venue this time. The fact that we were able to introduce World Ranking points made the line-up stronger, and all of the best players have basically been here, which is a big improvement from Baku, Agerbak commented.

- We have seen a much better event from almost all aspects.

Krakow 2023

In four years, the third edition of the European Games will take place in Krakow, Poland. Agerbak hopes to see badminton as one of the sports at the event.

- I am very hopeful and confident that badminton will be part of the sports programme in Krakow. I think we have done everything we can to play the role that we needed to play here in these Games to make them successful, he said.

- I am really looking forward to coming to Poland. It is a more traditional badminton country and I am sure it will be a great competition for badminton in four years, Agerbak added.
