Chris Langridge and Marcus Ellis are kings of multi-sport events.

A clash between two of the Men’s Doubles pairs in Europe was expected, and Kim Astrup/Anders Skaarup Rasmussen and Chris Langridge/Marcus Ellis did not let anybody down. The Men’s Doubles final at the European Games 2019 was a demonstration of badminton at the absolute top level.

Going into the Games the Danes were the favourites to win the title, but the British underdog has more than once proved that they can beat the best pair in the world and take home medals. Saturday it happened again.

Got better and better
Chris Langridge and Marcus Ellis, who won the bronze medals at the Rio Olympics and the gold medals at the Commonwealth Games 2018, won the first game 21-17 and secured the first ever GB title at a European Games winning the second game 21-10.

- Each round we got a bit better and better and I think in the final today we performed to a good standard. We can be a bit up and down and sometimes we cannot get used to conditions or the opponents style of play quick enough, but today I think we both put up a really good performance, Chris Langridge said.

- When you play like that you never want to come off the court. You could play all your matches. Unfortunately, these moments do not come along very often, but it seems like when it comes to big events, Chris and I have managed to do quite well, Marcus Ellis added.
