Pablo Abian is aware of the challenge that faces him if he wants to defend his Baku European Games title successfully.

The Spaniard played his first match today in Minsk and won in straight games (21-11, 21-8) against Luka Wraber who beat Brice Leverdez at the Azerbaijan International 2019.

Abian is going for back-to-back

Abian is back at the European Games to fight for the Gold medal that he achieved in Baku, four years ago.

The 34-year old revealed in the Badminton Europe Magazine that the Gold Medal in Baku was the biggest achievement of his career.

- I feel good, and I am so happy to be back here at the European Games to try and defend the title that I got in Baku in 2015, Pablo Abian said.

- I felt very good on court and happy to beat Luka Wraber in two games, he added.

The next match is important

Abian, despite being confident, knows that he cannot get ahead of himself, as he knows how tough the competition is at the European Games.

- It is going to be very difficult to try and win the Gold medal again here in Minsk, but the most important thing is the next match, Abian said.

- I have to prepare well to fight in my next match, the Spanish Men’s Singles player continued.
