The second day of the 2019 Azerbaijan International, has come to an end and it is fair to say that there has been one or two shocks.

The day began with the last round of qualification before the main draw began at 12:00 local time.

Deprez impresses against top seed

The first shock of the day came in favour of Germany, as Fabienne Deprez knocked out the number one seed, Evegeniya Kosetskaya.

The German came into this one with no pressure and managed to beat the Russian in straight games.

I gave everything. I played her last time and it was really tough but I am so glad that I did enough today.

- I prefer shorter rallies, and I managed to focus on my game and not on her game, that was the key, Fabienne Deprez said.

- I did not expect to win in the first round, she was the top seed. My flight is not until Sunday night so I can play the finals! (laughs)

Not the end of the surprises

Also in the first section of the main draw, Beatriz Corrales was beaten by Lianne Tan who showed her quality to beat the seeded Spaniard.

Tan won in straight games, and Corrales congratulated her opponent after the match and praised her current level, on court.

- Lianne right now is playing quite well, as she showed in her performance, she was stronger than me today, Beatriz Corrales said.

Leverdez out in first round

This was not the end of the underdogs taking the results, as Brice Leverdez got caught out by Luka Wraber from Austria.

The Frenchman struggled to get into the match, and as a result, lost in straight games.
