From 24-30 June, badminton will get underway at the European Games 2019 in Minsk. This time, Marvin Seidel from Germany revealed his expectations for the biggest multi-sports event in Europe in a ‘Question & Answer’ session.
Competing at international level with his partners, Mark Lamsfuss and Linda Efler, Marvin Seidel is representing Germany. For the Doubles player, the European Games 2019 will be his first multi-sports event.
Marvin, what was your reaction when you knew that you are qualified for the European Games in Minsk?
Seidel: I was very happy but also a little disappointed that I just qualified for one Doubles category. It has been very close in the Mixed.
You will be competing with Mark in the Men's Doubles. You qualified as the fourth-best pair, referring to the world ranking. What is your goal for the tournament?
Seidel: We are seeded for the event; therefore, a medal is the minimum goal. We want to move into the final and fight for gold.
What do you expect from the atmosphere in Minsk?
Seidel: I honestly do not know what I should imagine. I will take everything as it comes and have the approach to not have any expectations.
What does it mean for you to represent Germany at the event?
Seidel: Representing your own country is always something special and makes me proud. I hope to fulfill all expectations and to represent Germany worthily.
How relevant are the European Games for you, when it comes to qualifying for the Olympic Games next year?
Seidel: If we qualify for Tokyo next year, the European Games will be a good test. When the time comes, I will be glad to have already experienced a smaller version of Olympia, at least partially.
