Strong start for Axelsen

Day two of the Yonex-Sunrise Indian Open took place today and it saw a strong start for Denmark star Viktor Axelsen.

The super 500 event is running all the way till Sunday 31st March and as the number two seed for the event Axelsen is one of if not Europe’s best chance of bringing the title back to the continent.

Comfortable win

Axelsen’s opening round match up against Misha Zilberman ended up being a comfortable one for the Dane.

The World number four led the match from start to finish,eventually running out a 21-13, 21-16 winner.

Axelsen dominated the opening game but fell behind early on in the second. He managed to fight back however to close the game out 21-16.

Tomorrow will see Axelsen return to the court where he will take on Suppanyu Avihingsanon (Thailand) in the second round.

More success for Denmark

Elsewhere there was even more success for Denmark on day two.

Firstly, Mia Blichfeldt managed to come through her opening round match-up with India’s Ritika Thaker with relative ease.

The number eight seed managed to come out with a 21-6, 21-14 win over Thaker in just 25 minutes to book her place in round two of the Women’s Singles.

Also, Jan O Jorgensen joined Axelsen in the second round of the Men’s Singles.

The unseeded Jorgensen defeated Rahul Yadav Chittaboina21-14, 21-6 to book himself a match with the highly rated Sunil Kumar Prannoy (India) tomorrow.
