Hans-Kristian Solberg Vittinghus from Denmark made a huge win against Lin Dan today in the German Open.

At the end of the third day of the YONEX German Open 2019, European players did their best in Muelheim an der Ruhr in the round of the last 16.

Aiming to bounce back stronger after his missed chance in the Barcelona Spain Masters 2019, Hans-Kristian Solberg Vittinghus picked up a significant victory today in Germany, that gave him the ticket to the Quarterfinals tomorrow.

Vittinghus looks in sparkling form

After a tough match of one hour and 16 minutes, the Dane managed to get the better of his Chinese opponent Lin Dan, seeded as number four.

- Beating him for the first time is a huge win for me! So excited to go again tomorrow, he stated on Instagram.

In the first set, the Chinese legend beat the Dane with 16-21. However, Vittinghus found his dominant style of play and fought for a victory, winning by 21-19 in the second set.

In the deciding game, he beat his opponent with 21-13, taking all the plaudits and moving into the Quarterfinals

- What a fight! Lin Dan made me work so hard today, I am really proud of the way I kept fighting to make things go my way, he posted on Instagram.

Tomorrow, in the Quarterfinals, the Dane will play against Soong Joo Ven from Malaysia.

European perceptives in Doubles

In the category of the Women’s Doubles, the number seven seeds Gabriela and Stefani Stoeva from Bulgaria defeated Ng Wing Yung and Yeung Nga Ting from Hong Kong with a score of 21-14 at the deciding game.

Tomorrow, the Bulgarians will face the Japanese Mayu Matsumoto and Wakana Nagahara, seeded as number three.


In the category of the Mixed Doubles, Robin Tabeling and Selena Piek from the Netherlands won out the Japanese Yuki Kaneko and Misaki Matsutomo by 22-20 in the first set and after settling down into their steady, error-free game, took the second with 21-13.

Tomorrow, in the Quarterfinals, the Dutch pair will meet the number one seeds Yuta Watanabe and Arisa Higashino from Japan.
