After being part of third-placed Russia at the European Mixed Team Championships last week, Vladimir Malkov has exited the Spanish Masters after being beaten by Anders Antonsen.

The Russian came into this match in good form after winning three times out of four matches for his team last week, but has revealed that his match was below par.

Malkov lost in straight games (17-21, 14-21) against Anders Antonsen after reaching the Round of 32 of the Spanish Masters in Barcelona.

Lack of confidence

Vladimir Malkov, speaking to Badminton Europe after his match spoke about his frustration after losing to Antonsen, one of the favourites for the tournament.

- The match was actually not good enough. I am a bit frustrated, because I could not play consistently well throughout the whole match, Vladimir Malkov said.

- My attacking play was not aggressive enough, but on the other hand, the control of the shuttle was not that bad.

- It was just my confidence that was the thing that prevented me from playing at my best, he added.

- He is one of the best badminton players in the world, but I am still frustrated about my match today, Malkov stated.

Next steps

Malkov will now head to the German Open next week but first, he will] travel to Holbæk in Denmark when he will prepare at Badminton Europe’s Centre of Excellence.

- I will go and prepare for the next tournament which is the German Open next week so time for preparation, recover and play again, he continued.
