There’s just two days to go until the highly anticipated European Mixed Team Championships get underway in Denmark, where the top eight European teams go head to head to see who will come out victorious. Today we are looking forward to the tournament by taking a look at Germany’s chances in the event.

Germany qualified for the EMTC by coming through Group 5 of qualification, where they ran out comfortable winners over Sweden, Austria and Slovenia.

They’ve been drawn in Group 2 for the tournament in Copenhagen, alongside Ireland Russia and England in what is expected to be a closely fought Group. All three of Russia, England and Germany will be expecting to reach the Final and underdogs Ireland are desperate to cause an upset so it will be interesting to see which country will come out on top in Group 2.

The 2013 Champions have been one of the most promising nations in recent years of the EMTC. After going 30 years without a medal in the event (1974-2004), the Germans have now been in the medal positions in all of the last four tournaments and will be hoping to continue that trend in this year’s event.

Squad

The Germans have picked the largest squad for the competition, with 20 players on their way to Denmark.

With so many players to choose from, its likely they’ll be a lot of rotation from the German team throughout the Group matches like they did in qualification where 13 different players played across the three matches.

The form of Mixed Doubles pair Mark Lamsfuss and Isabel Herttrich could be massively important in Germany getting themselves into the final. The pair are ranked 18th in the World and will be key to any success that the German team will have in the Frederiksberg Hall.
