Danes win on day two of the finals

Day 2 of the BWF World Tour Finals in Guangzhou, China, has brought one European victory with Kim Astrup & Anders Skarrup Rasmussen beating Han Chengkai & Zhou Haodong on home soil.

Some interesting matches concluded on Thursday with Pusarla V Sindhu beating Tai Tzu Ying for the first time since the Rio Olympics in 2016 over three games after coming from behind.

Then it was the battle of Japan and Thailand as Nozomi Okuhara came up against Ratchanok Intanon, with the Japanese Women’s Singles player coming out on top over three games.


The Danes flying the flag

In the Men’s Doubles, Kim Astrup & Anders Skarrup Rasmussen managed to get their first win of the tournament after they lost to the number one pair in the world Marcus Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo.

The Danes managed to win in straight games today against their Chinese opponents in Han Chengkai & Zhou Haodong, a pair who they had never met before today.

The first game was a pretty much straightforward win for Astrup and Rasmussen before the second game which was much more of a contest but they still came out on top (21-17, 21-19)


Tough day for Europe 

Elsewhere in Europe, Marcus Ellis and Lauren Smith had a tough match against the Denmark Open finalists, Dechapol Puavaranukroh & Sapsiree Taerattanachai, losing in straight games.

Also having a tough time at the finals are Gabriela and Stefani Stoeva, the sisters who have had two tough matches on day 1 & 2 lost to Thailand pair Jongkolphan Kititharakul & Rawinda Prajongjai in straight games after leading.
