The Syed Modi International Championships in India has thrown up a sort of quarter-final match-up that we haven’t seen for several years. 5th seeds Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen with face South Korean stars, Lee Yong Dae and Kim Gi Jung.

The last time Lee shared a court with the Danish veterans was back in 2015, in the brilliantly entertaining final of the Hong Kong Open. That was the 29th meeting and went to Lee Yong Dae, who was playing with Yoo Yeon Seong. Lee, and his now partner Kim Gi Jung, along with many South Korean players took some time away from the sport but are now making their return.

In fact, Kim Gi Jung, and his then partner Kim Sa Rang, faced the Danes at the Rio Olympics in 2016, and also came out on top.

Returning stars
Boe and Mogensen, like the South Koreans, have come through two straight forward matches, and will meet tomorrow in a hotly anticipated match-up. The South Korean may edge it on past results, but it will be interesting to see how the returning stars cope with the experienced Danes who showed a lot of promise against the world number one pair just last week.
