It was a victory in the Men’s Doubles for Indonesian pair, Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo in the semi-final of the Denmark Open.

The pair won against their home countrymen Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan, winning in straight games 21-18 24-22.

The pair were comfortable in the first game against the veterans but in the second game, they run their chances of having to play a deciding game, letting their opponents back into the contest.

-We are very happy to have won the match, they are a very tough pair to play against but it is good that we were able to win the match, Marcus Gideon told Badminton Europe.

A late finish and an early start

Yesterday’s late finish on court meant that the two were also late finishing in the quarter-finals and were back on court on Saturday morning, Gideon believes that was a factor in the close second game.

- We got back to the hotel at 12 am yesterday after playing and now we are here early today, so we are very tired.

Good support from Indonesia

The vocal crowd cheering for Gideon and Sukamuljo really got behind the pair in a tough second game against Ahsan and Setiawan, Gideon explained how it helped them.

- We are very happy that we have support here, they come from different parts and we met them yesterday. It is so nice to play in front of them, he said.
