On Wednesday morning, European double players were able to reach the next round of the DANISA Denmark Open, some of them even surprisingly.

The biggest surprise on Wednesday morning in Odense has been the victory of Selena Piek/Cheryl Seinen. The Dutch pair won against Matsumoto/Nagahara from Japan, seeded number six and fifth in the World Rankings.

An unexpected win

- We feel amazing. The Dutch Open last week went very well for us, but the victory today came unexpected, said Cheryl Seinen after the match.

- Originally, our flight back home was tomorrow, said Selena Piek.

- We knew that it is one of the biggest tournaments in the world, all the World Champions are here. So the victory today was one of the biggest in our career. But we were confident because of our performance from last week.

European Doubles in the next round

Next to Piek/Seinen, other European doubles have been successful and reached the next round of the DANISA Denmark Open.

Mark Lamsfuss and Marvin Emil Seidel won against the South Korean pair, Kang/Kim with 21-19 and 29-27. A close match, according to Seidel:

- It was a very mental and tough game. But we are very happy that we were able to win the match.

- We stayed calm at the end of the second game. So, this was the key for winning today, added Mark Lamsfuss.

A Danish home victory

Maiken Fruergaard/Sara Thygesen is the third double pair that has reached the round of 16 on Wednesday morning. The Danish Women’s Double won against Hsu/Wu from Taiwan with 21-9, 19-21 and 21-15.
