From 9-14 October, 312 players are participating in the YONEX Dutch Open in Almere, the Netherlands. Thereby, one participant had to deal with a typical Monday.
Starting on Tuesday, the YONEX Dutch Open are organised by BWF and Badminton Netherlands. Players from different continents are competing against each other, 75 players are Non-European.
Since 1932 the tournament is held annually. As every year, the most amount of players is representing European countries.
Europeans are top seeded
Best seeded in men’s singles is Dutch player Mark Caljouw, whereas Mia Blichfeldt from Denmark is seeded number one in women’s singles.
The pair of Gabriela and Stefani Stoeva that currently returned from their Asian tour, playing in the China and Japan Open, is the top seed in women’s doubles. Indonesian pair Berry Angriawan and Hardianto Hardianto from Indonesia is first seeded in men’s doubles.
The defending Dutch Open champions, Marcus Ellis and Lauren Smith, are starting the tournament as top seed in mixed doubles.
A typical Monday
On Monday, most of the players have made their way to Almere. One of them who finally did it, is Finish player, Airi Mikkelä. The women’s singles player posted a picture on Instagram with the following caption:
- Next stop: The Netherlands and Dutch Open! Having such a Monday as I forgot both my badminton shoes and my passport but luckily noticed that before it was too late.
So, Mikkelä is now definitely ready for the BWF tournament. One of her competitors in women’s singles, Fabienne Deprez, is also motivated for the upcoming days in the Netherlands:
- I enjoyed the weekend at my parent’s place, it gives me energy that I need for the upcoming challenges. On Tuesday, I will leave to Almere for the Dutch Open. I am looking forward to giving my best on court again, says the German player on her Instagram account.
