Badminton Europe is creating links with the National Training Centres of excellence within the Member Associations. The idea is to certificate those centres that have the required standard and to cooperate on offering training for talented players from other Member Associations by awarding scholarships. Badminton Europe has confirmed eight Certificated Training Centres all around Europe.

Marie Demy: "A great experience in Greve"

This summer, from 17 to 31 August, I went to Greve, Denmark. As Greve is part of the Copenhagen area, it is really easy to go there. The first day I arrived, I immediately went to the hall to play matches with the young players of the club. As I just landed, it was tough to play. My legs were very heavy but we still had some good matches.

On the Sunday, the coaches let me rest to be ready for the week so I just went to the beach and relaxed.

The morning sessions were quite technical. At first, we had to pratice two against one or one against one and all the practices had a different focus and a different exercise. My own goal was in one hand, all the hittings from the base line and on the other one, all the shots at the net. Twenty minutes before the end of the training, we all did some technical exercises of six or seven series of shuttles.

Wednesday and Friday morning were more different. On Wednesday, we did the physical training, all time long, some multi-feeding and some power exercise with really short rests, for about 20 minutes and we stretched on Friday. This training was my favourite one because it really did help me to feel good and relaxed after a hard week.

The evening trainings were funnier because we played matches for about one hour. It was pretty nice to play against very good players. They were some players from the national team and others from different countries like Nanna Vainio (FIN) and Matilda Petersen (SWE). But, before we could play our matches, we had to work. So we did some two against one exercises the first hour of the training. It was either a defense pratice either a full court practice.

I guess that my biggest problem was to cook for myself. After the evening sessions, it was really hard to find the courage to prepare my meal - so sometimes I went to a restaurant. The funny thing was that chief spoke French so I felt a bit like in Belgium.

In conclusion, it was a really great experience. I learnt a lot of things and I met some nice people. I would like to thank Badminton Europe for helping me to make this trip possible.
