Victor Svendsen has advanced to the quarter finals at the 2018 Li Ning Czech Open despite a shaky start in his opening round against Jonathan Persson.

The Danish 3rd seed is an avid golf lover and with two Danes holding pivotal roles for team Europe in France at this years Ryder Cup the Dane found it hard to focus in his opening match as he struggled to a three set win.

- The Ryder Cup is very big and with a Danish captain and Thorbjorn Olesen playing I found myself distracted by that coming to court this morning.

Svendsen’s match against Persson was very topsy-turvy with momentum swinging continuously back and forth across the net.

- I just found it difficult to focus. Jonathan can be so good but then can play 10 bad shots in a  row and it is just hard to concentrate in that kind of match.

Svendsen re grouped for his second match of the day and took no time seeing off the threat of Sweden’s Felix Burestedt in two games 21-19 21-13.

Spain’s number 2 seed Pablo Abain twice had to come back from a set down to claim his quarter final spot. The Spanish number 1 went a set down to home favourite Milan Ludik before the Czech ran out of steam in the deciding set.

Abian dropped the first set against Singh of India in round two before once again doing what he so often does, coming back to win in three games to win in an hour.
