Hans-Kristian Vittinghus has revealed to Badminton Europe, how his personal life at the moment is as important as life on the court.

The 32-year old recently became a father to his son, Vincent in March and has started his own little family with his wife.

Vittinghus, who is currently 18th in the world rankings, travels the world playing badminton and is often away from home.

Being away from home

Vittinghus, born in Frederikshavn admitted that he struggles to be away from his little family- but hopes to find a way of dealing with it.

The 32-year old praised his wife for the support that she gives him but feels he would like to be at home with her and his son.

- To be honest I’m finding it very hard to be away from my family. It’s really something I need to find a better way of coping with mentally.

- My wife is extremely supportive of what I do and my family is helping out a lot when I’m gone on tour, but I still feel some sort of guilt for letting my wife be alone with everything at home.

Becoming a parent

The Dane believes that becoming a parent is the biggest thing to ever happen to him and is sure that he will find a way to get around, not being at home as often.

- Becoming a parent for me is, without a doubt, the biggest thing to happen in my life, so I won’t complain, it’s all a blessing.

- I’ll just need to work and learn how to deal with it all, and then I’m sure I’ll find my way in this new life for me.
