During the last three months, a lot of 2013 Regional Projects, supported by Badminton Europe, took place in several parts of Europe. A Regional Project is a collaboration of a minimum of 3 BEC Member Associations from the same region, organised as Training Camp for the age groups U13, U15, U17, and/or U19 players or as a Coach education.

Here you can read about a few activities who took place since July.

Lithuania, 1-10 July 2013

On July 1st, 12 junior players from Lithuania and Estonia started a 10-day training camp in the small, but very beautiful Lithuanian town Visaginas. The camp was a result of Lithuanian Badminton Federation’s Regional Project funded by Badminton Europe.

Those ten days worked very well. Players received helpful instructions from an experienced team of coaches. The participants had more than five hours a day of intense training. Also, they had a chance to have sparring matches with Russian players who were present in Visaginas at the same time (not part of the regional project). As a result, players demonstrated a great improvement in their skills and were able to use the learned technical and tactical elements in their game. As a conclusion, the camp was a success and helped not only strengthen the relationships between the countries, but also take the players' game to a higher level.

“I had a blast“, says Tautvydas, one of the camps' participant. “I mean don’t get me wrong, it was intense and some mornings I had troubles getting out of bed – that’s how much my muscles ached, but in the end, I feel like I achieved something. Now I feel faster, stronger… well, just better. Not only that, I believe that I made some great friends!”

Switzerland, 20-27 July 2013 (Organiser: Germany)

24 national junior players from Austria, Ireland, Switzerland, Sweden and Germany stayed for one week at the Sporthotel Olympica in Brig, Switzerland to practice together with seven top level coaches from four countries. An ideal programme of individual and physical training, practicing in groups, team matches, regeneration and leisure activities guaranteed a perfect players' preparation for the upcoming season. Unforgettable moments were the tough interval uphill runs and different team events like badminton, beach volleyball, soccer or bowling.

The spirit of the camp was an amazing mixture of exchange and intensive training. Players and coaches are looking forward to meeting each other again at the next tournaments.

Slovenia, 26 July - 2 August 2013

25 players and 4 coaches from Slovenia, Croatia and Slovakia attended the 7- day Badminton Europe financial supported Regional Project at Mirna in Slovenia.

Young players of the age group U17 spent seven days at the sports hall learning new technical and tactical skills. Instructor Simon Nielsen from Denmark and four national coaches (Maja Kersnik and Dusan Skerbis from Slovenia, Vlaho Čerjan from Croatia and Jan Fil from Slovakia) tried to bring the players motivation to practice professional badminton on the higher level and become top players in the near future. Maybe someone will play at Olympics in 2020. The players spent a great time together - not only at badminton, they also had some other fun activities like swimming, football and several mini fun games.

Hungary, 13-18 August 2013

The Badminton Centre in the tiny city called Pécs hosted again the Hungarian stage of the Phoenix Project. The second session of the Regional Program of Badminton Europe had been taken place in the Badminton Centre of Hungary between 13-18 of August.

Thanks to the financial support of BEC, 18 shuttlers from four countries (Bulgaria, Hungary, Roumania and Serbia) were taking part in this Regional Project. The camp was led by Tsugio Yamamoto, a Japanese coach who is also known as the head coach of the Hungarian National Team and the Hungarian Team Champion Multi Alarm Sport Club.

As for the players concern all of them did their best and tried to follow their 68 years old master’s instructions even if they had pain or felt stiff in their muscles. The focus of the camp was the quick movements on court and the accuracy of the shots. The special advantage of the camp was that almost all the players were on the same level consequently it was rather easy to practise the same exercises.

9 courts were available for the shuttlers and that made it possible to play also friendly matches at the end of the trainings. Unbelievable nice weather, a lovely city and landscape, ideal facilities (living in the apartements of the hall, fitness room) and the delicious Hungarian kitchen made the players’ stay unforgettable.
