"Have more power and speed now"

Badminton Europe is creating links with the National Training Centres of excellence within the Member Associations. The idea is to certificate those centres that have the required standard and to cooperate on offering training for talented players from other Member Associations by awarding scholarships. Badminton Europe has confirmed eight Certificated Training Centres all around Europe.

"I can feel, I have more speed and power now"
 
I love Denmark. It was the best choice to come here and train again.  I've been training at the Certificated Training Centre in Odense in Denmark exactly five weeks. My journey started on 11 of July, I flew from the capital of Slovakia to Copenhagen where I took a train to Odense. When I arrived to Odense, my coach Lennart Engler picked me up and drove me to the apartment. It was such a big house where I lived with other players from different countries. Players were changing all the time, I shared room with many girls. Our apartment was well arranged, there was a big modern kitchen with dish-washer, bathroom with two washing-machines, living room with TV, Wi-Fi, many rooms and little garden where we could sunbath if the weather was sunny.

We had fun every day, between trainings we played cards or watched movies. It was a big challenge for me, I had to shop and cook by myself. I don't want to see pasta and rice next two weeks because it was my ordinary food. Fortunately, our apartment was only 5 minutes walking distance from the training hall and maybe 10 minutes from city centre. Training hall was perfect! It's build only for badminton, with 7 courts, the shuttles were given by the club. I really enjoyed every training, every moment in the hall. I liked the music while we had practice. Everybody could use a gym in the hall or ask for massage.

The first training started in the morning at 8 o'clock and it lasted two hours. In the first 20 minutes we had to focus on warming up. Then we always played some small matches on half-court, mostly with different rules. After that everybody was 100% ready. We were divided in groups, men's singles, girls singles and double players. We played many exercises 2 against 1 or 3 against 1, with focus on stress game and flat game, defense, double quarter.

In the morning it was always more technical. In the last week our focus was backcourt, especially for me it was important. In afternoon we trained two hours again. We played some speed games, sometimes power trainer with heavy racket and two times per week we played matches. After Wednesday's and Friday's afternoon everybody got tired because we had multifeeding. In fact, I liked it. It was hard work and big challenge for me. Every time I had to beat my limits and improve them. 45 minutes, 3 sets and just survive.

Tough sessions ...

Trainings were always hard, I was sweating after all of them. I really appreciate sparing with high level players. I guess that my game improved, I can feel I'm faster and have more power now. I learned a lot of new technical things in this five weeks.

I would like to say many thanks to Badminton Europe for helping me and also to coach Lennart as he spent a lot of time explaining me how to play better badminton. I really appreciate it and I hope to come back again next summer or maybe during the season.
