Playing in the team of the team, that is what Hope Warner is going to do during the upcoming European Junior Championships in Tallinn.
The 16-year-old badminton player and defending U17 European champion represents her home country, England, in the team competition as mixed double player. Badminton Europe spoke with her about expectations, team play and possible pressure.
- I am hoping to get through some rounds, but I am just going to take one at a time and concentrate on playing to the highest standard I am capable of.
- I always get nervous before games but I do not feel that pressured, I am just going to play the best I can while enjoying it.
Europe’s youth elite in badminton is coming together in Tallinn
From 7-16 of September 2018 Europe’s youth elite in badminton is competing in the Junior Championships. Beginning with the team competition, the tournament is going to be an event for presenting new talents and rising stars.
Team England will play against Spain, Portugal and Hungary. With Hope Warner in its team, England relies on experiences on an international level.
- I already competed in the European Junior Championships two years ago in Mulhouse, and I had one of my best experiences there. So I am really looking forward to this tournament, it is very nice to be able to play for England.
Team player
Hope Warner is a team player, she is starting in women’s as well as mixed doubles. Next to her U17 European champion title in mixed doubles, the girl from Wigston also won the bronze medal as U15 European mixed double player.
- I love team events because the atmosphere is always lovely and it is nice to know you have support behind you, so I’m looking forward to starting on Friday.
