Injury and rehabilitation

While on the Asian Tour, Sabrina Jaquet was forced to retire with a problem with her achilles in her match at the Thailand Open. She felt she could continue the tour, so played the Singapore Open. As soon as she started the match, her achilles tendon felt bad, and she was forced to retire again. She abandoned the tour, and returned to Biel in Switzerland to get fit again.

Badminton Europe caught up with her and asked her about her injury and her return to fitness.

-I'm fine, my rehab is going well and I hope to be back in action in 1-2 months, it really depends on my ability to train hard for the next few weeks.

-As always, when I'm coming back from injury, my only target is to first enjoy the moment and then find my rhythm on court again. When injured, I actually don't have much free time, as I’m busy with my rehab, physio and then coming back slowly on court again. But I had some holiday time as well, which I really enjoyed!

Goals for the season

I asked Jaquet what her short term goals were.

- My targets for the next few months are not results oriented, I just want to be able to practice full time again and reach my highest level. That's all I wish for the next few months.

- My long-term goal is to be fully fit for the World Championships next year, which will be held in my home country Switzerland. So my mind is fully focussed on that!

Ladies singles is really competitive at the moment, with all the top players able to win against each other.

-Yes right now ladies singles is crazy and so competitive! There are so many good players from many different countries. That's really nice to see, and why I enjoy singles so much. I just love the feeling of running around the court, practicing hard and when I can play at my highest level, it's just a really great feeling!

Favourite Tournaments

-My favourite tournament is the Swiss Open, as it's always really nice to play at home, in front of my friends, family and the home crowd is always amazing, so I normally play quite well here. I also really enjoy playing in Asia, as it's always a special atmosphere.

- Finally, I love the French Open, because I played for a team in Paris for 7 years, and I always feel a little bit at home there!

-I don't have any opponent that I especially enjoy playing against. I love every challenge, and always like to play new opponents that I have never played before.

Not a fan of the new service rule

Finally, I asked Jaquet about the new service rule.

-I'm not a big fan. In my opinion it's not a really fair because the height of players plays a big role.

- I have thought of changing my service a little bit as I'm not really tall. I think I can get a big advantage from it, which is not really fair, but the rule change gives me this opportunity.

We wish Sabrina Jaquet a swift return to the court and back to her best.
