The HSBC BWF World Tour Super 300 tournament will be hosted in Barcelona, Spain, and the Spanish Badminton Federation is excited to take another step as organizers of a major international event.

Back in April this year, the Spanish Badminton Federation hosted Badminton Europe’s (BEC) flagship event, the European Championships, with great success in Huelva.

- It’s a new step forward after the 2018 Europeans in Huelva. The big effort Badminton Spain developed last April together with Badminton Europe allows to build more on a solid structure for our players, crowd at the event and TV spectators, Jaime Gomez Development & Communications Manager for the Spanish federation explains.

- Thanks to the hard work back then, everyone in Spain knows what badminton is, what badminton means, its’ values and potential.

New level, new possibilities
Previously, Spain has organized an International Challenge but with the new event structure by BWF, this new tournament is a level up, which compared to the old system would be a Grand Prix. With that extra level, the federation is proud to have their new world champion as a part of the new tournament in Barcelona.

- Of course, Carolina is the key player, not just in Spanish but in European badminton. Before, during and after, we have to work very hard for our sport, but Carolina is a big boost to be stronger. For this reason, we want to create a bigger structure in all areas taking into account what Carolina means and her sports attractive for audience.

To be included in the BWF World Tour at the same level as events as Swiss Open and German Open opens new possibilities to increase the badminton audience in new ways. And the communication manager also thinks that Barcelona is a very attractive destination for both fans and players and will definitely be a key factor to push badminton forward in Spain.
