Japan’s Kento Momota clinched his second Indonesia Open title on Sunday after defeating world number one Viktor Axelsen of Denmark. Momota - world number 8 - eased past the world champion after 37 minutes of play in two games 21-14, 21-9. The second place means Axelsen’s best career result at the Indonesia Open.
Viktor Axelsen: "I made too many mistakes. I couldn’t find my length"
World number one Axelsen praised Momota's performance after their final. “Kento played way better than I did. I made too many mistakes. I couldn’t find my length. The result was a combination of me not playing my best and Kento playing really well.”
“He is in the best form but hopefully I can come back and challenge him“, Axelsen told BWF.
Two titles for host nation Indonesia
The titles in the men’s doubles and mixed doubles went to the host country Indonesia as Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo and Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir took the titles on home soil.
In the women's singles, first seed Tai Tzu Ying claimed her second tournament victory after beating China's Chen Yufei 21-23, 21-15 and 21-9.
