The first day of the Super 750 tournament Malaysian Open 2018 was a tough one. Many of our European players needed three sets to proceed or did not make it all to the next day. Also French pair Audrey Fontaine and Ronan Labar did not succeed to win their first match.

Fontaine and Labar faced Indonesian pair Ronald Ronald and Annisa Saufika. The match was also decided in three games, but with 7-21 21-18 and 11-21 not in the advantage of the French pair.

- The circumstances in the hall today were different than when we trained here yesterday. Fontaine told Badminton Europe after the match

- It was very slow and because of that, we had trouble creating openings in the field.

No escape

The Indonesian pair seemed to handle the environmental conditions in the hall better than the French pair and took an advantage of that.

- We received a lot of pressure from our opponents, which made it hard to make the right decisions on the right moments.

- Even though we still won a set, it was not enough to come further today.
