It was a great quarter final day in Calgary Canada. Except for the women’s singles, Europe is present in every semi-final!

In mixed doubles there is an all European semi-final. That means that the winner of the mixed doubles will definitely be a European pair! It is also funny that all these pairs are facing each other according to their seeding.

First seeded pair Marcus Ellis and Lauren Smith (England) will play against Marvin Emil Seidel and Linda Efler (Germany) in a few hours. The German pair was in the quarter finals too strong for Dutch pair Robin Tabeling and Cheryl Seinen.

In the other half, Jacco Arends and Selena Piek will try not to face the same faith as their compatriots and will try to take down Mark Lamsfuss and Isabel Hettrich. In the quarter final Piek and Arends had a good win over Chinese pair Lu Kai/Chen Lu and have to keep this good game in order to beat the Germans.

European or Japanese women’s doubles final?

In women’s doubles, unseeded pair Isabel Hettrich and Carla Nelte (Germany) have made it all the way through the semifinal. In the first round they had a surprising win against the fourth seeded Japanese pair Misato Aratama and Akane Watanabe.

Yesterday Hettrich and Nelte had a relatively easy win against their team mates Goliszweski/Kapplein for a semi-final spot. Now Hettrich and Nelte have to beat another Japanse pair, Nami Matsuyami and Chiharu Sida, if they want to be in the final.

At the other side of the draw, French pair Emilie Lefel and Anne Tran also play against a Japanese pair. After a solid win over Linda Efler and Eva Jansssens (Germany) in the quarter finals, they now have to play against first seeded Ayaka Sakuramoto and Yukiko Takahata.

Double duty

A couple of players have to work twice as hard as they have to play two semi-finals. Earlier mentioned was Isabel Hettrich who is both in mixed and women’s doubles semi-finals. Also her partner Mark Lamfuss made it to the semi-finals.

Mark Lamsfuss plays with Marvin Emil Seidel, who is also making a double duty as earlier mentioned with Linda Efler. They will play against Chinese pair Di Zijian and Wang Zhang.

Also Marcus Ellis made it also through the men’s doubles semi-finals. With Chris Langridge he will try to make his seeding come true, by trying to overcome Inkarat Apisut/ Tanupat Viriyangkura.
