Knight Grand Cross awarded to Sir Craig Reedie

For his services of sport, Craig Reedie was awarded the Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire (GBE).

Sir Craig, 77, is President of World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and his been awarded the highest award of its kind in the occasion of Queen Elizabeth ll of the United Kingdom’s birthday. The honor is granted by the British Government only twice a year, on this date, June 9th, and on New Year’s Day.

- This is truly a great honour for me and for WADA. It recognises the important work that we are doing in leading the fight against doping in sport and in protecting clean athletes against cheats, Reedie said to Inside the Games.

- This award is a vote of confidence for everyone within the anti-doping movement, a reminder that our efforts are appreciated and valued by the wider world and that our mission is an important one for society as a whole.


Driving force behind London Olympics
Earlier in his career, Reedie served as President of the International Badminton Federation and was the driving force behind the sport being elected onto the Olympic programme, making its debut at Barcelona in 1992.

From 1992-2005, he was chairman of the British Olympic Association, and stepped down after having played a major role for the successful bid for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games in London.  Furthermore, he also served on the Executive Board and as a vice-president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and remains a member of the organisation today.

Sir Craig Reedie is also has also received BWF’s Herbert Scheele Trophy for outstanding exceptional services to badminton in 1992, and the Honorary Life Vice President award from BWF in 1987.
